HIV/AIDS|Zimbabwe Charity INC (HAZ) unequivocally endorses the Jibilika Dance Trust, “Step Up 2 HIV” initiative.
We extend our congratulations to the Jibilika Dance Trust, and in particular, to Mr. Plot Mhako for his vision, and for inviting us to participate at the launch of the initiative. We are pleased to bring our efforts and stand with you in supporting the important message being shared through the talented artists gathering at the College of Music on Saturday, July 6th, and going into the future, through the “Step Up 2 HIV” initiative. As Zimbabweans, we also express our gratitude for the PEPFAR funding that has helped make this initiative possible.
The “Step Up 2 HIV” initiative embodies HAZ’s own ethos. So today, we join Jibilika in asking each of you to respond to this call for action and personal responsibility by stepping up to HIV.
Doing so moves Zimbabwe forward in its “GETTING TO ZERO” campaign. And that means:
- ZERO new HIV infections
- ZERO discrimination
- ZERO HIV related deaths
Our own Zimbabwe AIDS Relief campaign calls upon you to:
- GET THE FACTS + GET TESTED
- GET + STAY CONNECTED TO CARE and/or SUPPORT
- TAKE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY IN PREVENTING NEW INFECTIONS
HAZ is a grassroots effort started by Zimbabweans in the Diaspora in 2005, with the purpose of engaging and challenging fellow Zimbabweans across the world, to be more engaged in the campaign to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS amongst Zimbabweans. Today, we have representative Chapters in the USA, in the United Kingdom and right here in Zimbabwe. Our projects include a Clinical Services Program, which has been offering free HIV/AIDS care to patients since 2008, right here in Zimbabwe.
We believe there is a role for every Zimbabwean to play in Zimbabwe’s campaign against HIV/AIDS. We commend Jibilika Dance Trust for an innovative initiative, aimed at getting young people engaged in the ongoing campaign against HIV/AIDS in Zimbabwe. Our own initiative with our Music263 program is also geared towards getting young people engaged in the fight against HIV/AIDS, through their love for music. The reward we take out of our work is when we know that we have positively and significantly touched and given hope to even a single life, that may otherwise have been overtaken by HIV. If all of us take this simple approach, we stand to strike a significant blow to the impact of HIV/AIDS within our communities.
